MONTEVERGINI - CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY OF SIRACUSA, 2012
curated by Gregorio Rossi and Dario Scarfì

In August and September 2012 an important exhibition by Andrea Benetti, entitled "Symbolism in Neorupestre painting" , was organized in the halls of the Contemporary Art Gallery in Syracuse. Forty-two works chosen from the period 2008-2012 displayed the new symbols contained in Andrea Benetti's innovative painting. The exhibition and the catalog, both curated by Dario Scarfì and Gregorio Rossi, re-read and interpreted the symbols present in Andrea Benetti's Neorupestre painting. A real novelty in the panorama of Italian contemporary art. The symbols examined range from the symbolism used and created for the Neorupestre painting, which pays homage to the painting of the origins, or to the cave painting created by the men of the caves. A portion of the Neorupestre painting, refers to the abstractionism of the origins, and as Benetti and many other scholars have argued, abstractionism was already born in Prehistory, together with all the main strands of painting.
